Solana, Google Cloud Launch Pay.sh Payment System for AI Agents
AI agents need to purchase data, models and API services autonomously, but traditional subscription and credit card processes are ill-suited to low-value, high-frequency transactions. The Solana Foundation and Google Cloud jointly developed Pay.sh, combining low-cost blockchain settlement with cloud AI services so agents can independently pay with stablecoins.
As of July 20, 2026, Pay.sh had integrated Coinbase’s x402 payment protocol. AI agents can use Solana wallets to access APIs such as Google Gemini on a pay-per-use basis without manual authorization for each transaction. Individual API calls cost as little as $0.005, with the system focused on micropayments and real-time settlement.

The history behind this eventGoogle and PayPal Say Agentic Commerce Will Run on Crypto Rails
AI agents can search, compare prices and make payments on users' behalf. But because they are neither natural persons nor legal entities, they cannot easily open accounts through traditional banking processes. Google Cloud and PayPal therefore see cryptocurrency, with its programmability, instant settlement and cross-border capabilities, as a potential underlying payment rail for agentic commerce.
At the Consensus Miami conference held from May 5 to 7, 2026, senior executives from Google Cloud and PayPal said agentic commerce would use crypto rails. Google launched the Agentic Payments Protocol (AP2) on September 16, 2025, and the protocol is now backed by 120 partners, including PayPal. Neither company disclosed transaction values or a date for a full rollout.
