Shift4, Global Blue Launch All-in-One Payments and Tax-Free Device

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-23 · Last active 2026-07-23

Shift4, a U.S. commerce technology provider, completed its $2.7 billion acquisition of Switzerland-based Global Blue on July 3, 2025, bringing together payment processing, dynamic currency conversion and tax-free shopping services. The combination matters for cross-border retail because merchants have traditionally relied on separate vendors for checkout, foreign exchange and VAT-refund workflows, while international travelers often face uncertainty over exchange rates and paperwork. Global Blue’s network spans hundreds of thousands of retail and hospitality locations.

On July 14, 2026, Shift4 and Global Blue unveiled Shift4 One, their first jointly developed product, a single handheld POS device that automatically identifies transactions eligible for currency conversion and tax-free refunds. It can offer shoppers payment in their home currency, calculate the refund and automate the process. The product launched in the UK, Ireland, Spain and Germany and is targeting 15 European countries by year-end. Shift4 said merchants using automatic eligibility detection typically record twice the tax-free transaction volume of those without it.
