DeepMind CEO Hassabis Predicts AI Will Usher In Golden Age of Scientific Discovery and Transform Healthcare

Google DeepMind has long used AI to advance fundamental science. Its AlphaFold system cracked the challenge of predicting protein structures, providing an important tool for disease research and drug development. CEO Demis Hassabis believes AI will transform more than the technology industry and could help humanity address challenges involving energy, healthcare and serious diseases.

Hassabis recently predicted that the next 10 to 15 years would bring a “golden age of scientific discovery,” with AI potentially making drug discovery up to 1,000 times more efficient. He also stressed that Google must proactively “disrupt itself” to build an AI-driven future.
