AI Agents Move Into Healthcare and Pharma, Helping Clinics Handle High Call Volumes
Voice-based AI agents are gaining ground in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, with a focus on high-frequency, repetitive administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling and patient inquiries. Large dermatology group Dermatology Partners has deployed a system that can converse directly with patients, schedule visits and integrate with its existing management platform. The rollout is intended to ease staffing pressure during peak periods and shows that generative AI is moving beyond customer-service trials into healthcare operations.
The latest case shows that Dermatology Partners' voice AI agent can help handle as many as 4,000 patient calls a day and schedule appointments directly after each conversation, reducing manual transfers and duplicate data entry. The report did not identify the system provider or disclose the exact deployment date, number of clinics covered or contract value. Its performance is currently measured mainly by call-handling volume and platform-integration capabilities.
