Ex-Deloitte IT Manager Admits Stealing 423 Laptops to Fund Stock Trades
Former Deloitte Hong Kong information technology manager Ho Man-kit used his control over company equipment to remove and resell laptops over roughly 17 months, according to the court case. The theft highlights internal-control risks at major professional-services firms, where employees with privileged access can bypass routine asset safeguards. It also shows how compulsive trading can escalate into prolonged workplace fraud, leaving losses for both the employer and the employee.
Ho, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of theft in Hong Kong’s District Court on Aug. 11, 2026. Between September 2021 and February 2023, he stole 423 Lenovo laptops valued at about HK$1.2 million and transferred the resale proceeds to a Futu Securities account for trading in shares and stock options. The court heard that the money was wiped out and Ho remained in debt. He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on Aug. 21.
