Boson AI Raises $70 Million, Readies Low-Cost Voice Model

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-04 · Last active 2026-08-04

Boson AI was founded in 2023 by former Amazon distinguished scientist Alex Smola and machine-learning researcher Mu Li to build AI systems that can converse in real time. Full-duplex voice agents demand continuous GPU processing and must respond faster than text chat, making latency and deployment costs central barriers to adoption. Solving those constraints could open customer-service and sales applications across finance, telecommunications and healthcare, placing the Santa Clara, California-based startup in competition with OpenAI, Meta and other voice-AI developers.

Boson said on May 1, 2023, that it had raised $70 million across two seed rounds. A July 27, 2026, report said the company was preparing to release Higgs RealTime, its first speech-to-speech model, using a full-stack architecture spanning models and production infrastructure. Boson says the system can cut deployment costs to about one-tenth of competing products. Backed by Chinese entrepreneur Su Hua and the venture arm of Singapore investment firm Temasek, it is initially targeting finance, telecommunications, healthcare and insurance customers.
