Taipei Leasing Industry Urges Balanced Oversight to Support SMEs

2 reports · First detected 2026-08-19 · Last active 2026-08-20

Financial leasing provides funding secured by equipment, vehicles and other movable assets, filling a gap left by conventional bank lending that often relies more heavily on real-estate collateral and established credit records. The sector is therefore an important source of working capital and equipment finance for small and medium-sized enterprises. Industry representatives say regulation should reflect the leasing business model so that stronger oversight does not unduly restrict financing flexibility or weaken its role in Taiwan’s financial system.

The Taipei City Leasing Association recently convened a forum focused on balancing regulatory oversight, market discipline and the industry’s capacity to expand financing. Academics and industry specialists called for stronger self-regulation, the creation of an industry database and deeper cooperation between leasing companies and banks. They said those measures could improve risk management while preserving support for SME borrowers. The reports did not disclose a policy timetable, financing amount or specific new regulatory proposal.

Taipei Leasing Association, CDRI Explore How Leasing Finance Can Strengthen SME Funding Resilience2026-06-30 · 1 reports · similarity 0.81

The Taipei Leasing Commercial Association and the Commerce Development Research Institute held a seminar focused on the financing needs of small and medium-sized enterprises as they manage funding, adopt AI and pursue ESG transformation. Leasing finance can supplement bank credit by helping businesses secure equipment and working capital, strengthening their resilience against transition costs and economic volatility.

The latest seminar brought together industry and academic representatives, who said digitizing accounts receivable and commercial paper could accelerate data verification and financing processes while strengthening cooperation between leasing companies and banks. However, reports did not disclose the seminar date, number of participants, value of the partnership or projected amount of additional financing. Its results will depend on concrete plans and supporting data.
