Taiwan's Electronic-Payment Spending Hits Record NT$8.6 Trillion
Taiwan's central bank statistics cover noncash instruments including credit cards, electronic-payment accounts and stored-value cards. As mobile payments became more widespread and merchant acceptance expanded, domestic electronic-payment spending climbed to NT$8.6 trillion in 2025. The figure indicates that noncash transactions are gradually becoming the mainstream choice for everyday purchases and reflects the growing maturity of Taiwan's payment infrastructure.
Full-year 2025 data released by the central bank showed that total spending across electronic-payment methods reached a record NT$8.6 trillion. Transactions using the TWQR interoperable payment standard promoted by Financial Information Service Co. also surpassed NT$700 billion. TWQR continues to connect with markets including Japan and South Korea, expanding Taiwan's cross-border QR-code payment ecosystem.
