Malware Families Target 1,243 Mobile Finance Apps Worldwide
The shift to mobile banking has made smartphones the primary gateway for account access, payments and money transfers, drawing fraud campaigns toward users’ devices. Malware aimed at financial apps can steal login credentials, intercept authentication data or deploy deceptive interfaces. The widening threat puts both digital-finance customers and service providers under pressure to strengthen app security, transaction monitoring and fraud response.
A cybersecurity study identified 34 malware families targeting 1,243 mobile banking and fintech applications across 90 countries, with U.S. bank apps now among the leading targets. The findings show that attacks are operating at global scale rather than focusing on a single institution or market. Banks and fintech companies face growing urgency to harden mobile services, detect suspicious activity and warn customers before compromised devices lead to account losses.
