Hana Bank’s stake purchase is the largest investment by a South Korean bank in a virtual-asset operator to date. The move also extends its strategy beyond real-name account partnerships into digital-asset services, stablecoins and next-generation payments.

Hana Financial Group announced on May 15, 2026, that its Hana Bank unit would acquire a 6.55% stake in Dunamu from Kakao Investment for 1 trillion won, or about $669 million. Hana Bank will become Dunamu’s fourth-largest shareholder after the transaction and is scheduled to receive the shares on June 15. Reports on May 18 said South Korea’s Financial Services Commission was reviewing the deal under banking-industry separation rules. The transaction also remains subject to review by the Fair Trade Commission.
