4 reports · First detected 2026-03-10 · Last active 2026-03-10

As companies connect agentic AI to internal data, tools and workflows, prompt injection, unauthorized actions and data leaks can directly disrupt operations. Founded in 2024, Promptfoo provides evaluation and red-teaming tools for LLM applications. It has been used by more than 350,000 developers, has 130,000 monthly active users and serves more than 25% of the Fortune 500, making it an important acquisition target for OpenAI as it strengthens governance and compliance capabilities.

OpenAI said on March 9, 2026, that it had agreed to acquire Promptfoo, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed. Promptfoo has raised $23 million and was valued at $86 million in July 2025. After the deal closes, its technology will be integrated into OpenAI Frontier, while its open-source project will continue to be maintained. Automated security testing, red-team exercises, risk tracking and compliance reporting will become native features.
