OpenAI Launches Limited-Edition Physical Keyboard Built for Codex

Codex Micro is OpenAI’s first branded hardware product, developed with specialty keyboard maker Work Louder for programmers using Codex and ChatGPT. The programmable macropad turns common AI workflows into physical controls, letting users move among agents, chats and projects without relying solely on a mouse and full keyboard. OpenAI formally launched Codex Micro on July 15, 2026, at $230 in the U.S. The device has six customizable agent keys and six command keys, connects over Bluetooth or USB, and includes a dictation control that uses the computer’s microphone. A TechCrunch hands-on published July 25 found that assigning sessions to keys can make project switching enjoyable and efficient for ChatGPT power users. But users must learn color-coded status lights and remember key mappings, while cheaper macropads challenge its appeal beyond dedicated coders.

OpenAI’s Codex is a coding tool that helps developers write and understand code and carry out programming tasks, a workflow that often requires repeated use of commands and functions.
