Fold Launches Bitcoin Gift Cards Across U.S. Retail Network
Fold, a financial services company focused on bitcoin, is bringing the cryptocurrency into the familiar gift-card format, allowing consumers to buy or give bitcoin without first navigating a crypto exchange. The initiative targets the roughly $300 billion U.S. retail gift-card market and could broaden bitcoin’s reach by placing it alongside conventional prepaid products in channels already used by mainstream shoppers.
Fold said it is partnering with gift-card issuer Totus to launch bitcoin gift cards across more than 150,000 physical and online retail locations in the United States. The distribution agreement gives consumers access to bitcoin through existing gift-card infrastructure, extending Fold beyond its core financial services and lowering some of the technical hurdles typically associated with buying, holding or gifting cryptocurrency.
