Microsoft Invests $2.5 Billion in New Company to Bolster AI Deployment and Frontier Transformation

The challenge of adopting generative AI has shifted from securing access to models toward integrating them with internal data, governance processes and measurable outcomes. Microsoft is therefore establishing Microsoft Frontier Company as a services organization that goes beyond traditional forward-deployed engineering, or FDE. Customers will be able to select and integrate Microsoft or third-party AI tools according to their needs, reducing the risk of dependence on a single model.

Microsoft announced Microsoft Frontier Company on July 2, 2026, committing $2.5 billion and assigning about 6,000 industry and engineering specialists to work alongside customers on designing, deploying and optimizing AI systems. Rodrigo Kede Lima will serve as president of the new business, whose initial partners include LSEG, Unilever, Land O’Lakes and Novo Nordisk.
