US Court Dismisses Class Action Accusing Binance of Helping Finance Terrorism

6 reports · First detected 2026-03-09 · Last active 2026-03-13

Binance pleaded guilty in November 2023 to violating the Bank Secrecy Act and sanctions rules, reaching a $4.3 billion settlement with the US Justice Department, Treasury Department and other agencies that highlighted deficiencies in its anti-money-laundering controls. This case instead centered on civil liability under the Anti-Terrorism Act, requiring the plaintiffs to demonstrate a direct link between the platform’s conduct and specific terrorist attacks.

On March 6, 2026, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed all claims in a 62-page ruling. The 535 plaintiffs alleged that Binance provided material support for 64 terrorist attacks, but the court, citing recent precedent, found that facilitating ordinary transactions or money laundering was insufficient to establish assistance, participation or conspiracy. The plaintiffs may still file an amended complaint within 60 days.
