Opera’s MiniPay Launches Visa Debit Card for Stablecoin Spending
Opera’s MiniPay is a self-custodial stablecoin wallet focused on emerging markets, with more than 16 million users worldwide. Its partnership with onchain payments provider Gnosis Pay connects digital assets to the Visa payment network, reducing the need for users to convert their holdings into fiat before spending. Merchants also do not need to handle stablecoins directly.
MiniPay has launched a Visa debit card that allows its more than 16 million users to pay for everyday purchases directly with stablecoins held in their wallets. The card supports Apple Pay and Google Pay and can be used at physical and online merchants that accept Visa. Stablecoins are converted into local fiat currency during each transaction, so merchants continue to receive fiat payments. The report did not disclose the exact launch date, fees or card-issuance markets.
