NASA Launches Artemis II With AI in Mission Control
Artemis II is NASA’s first crewed flight under the Artemis program and the first human mission around the Moon in more than 50 years. The test brings together the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft to validate life-support, navigation, communications and crew systems before future lunar expeditions. AI-driven monitoring and digital-twin simulations add a new layer of autonomy intended to reduce reliance on manual analysis during deep-space operations.
NASA launched Artemis II from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 6:35 p.m. EDT on April 1, 2026. Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen began a roughly 10-day journey around the Moon. Advanced algorithms are monitoring trajectories and life-support data in real time, while Redwire’s array of 11 internal and external cameras automatically supplies imagery used to track Orion’s position and velocity relative to Earth.
