Musk Devotes Half of Tesla Earnings-Call Remarks to AI and Robots
Tesla has spent years recasting itself from an electric-vehicle manufacturer into an AI and robotics company, even though automobiles still underpin its finances. The company generated $94.8 billion of revenue in 2025, including $69.5 billion from vehicle sales and leases and regulatory credits. The divide matters because investors increasingly value Tesla on whether Full Self-Driving, Robotaxi and Optimus can turn autonomous AI into scalable businesses, rather than on conventional carmaking alone.
An Aug. 4, 2026, analysis by TechCrunch and New York-based financial research firm Hudson Labs examined Tesla earnings-call transcripts sourced from S&P Market Intelligence dating to 2019. It found Musk now devotes nearly 50% of his remarks to AI, Robotaxi and Full Self-Driving, versus 15% to 20% in 2022. Optimus alone took nearly one-third of his attention on the third-quarter 2025 call, even as Tesla shipped almost 500,000 cars in the latest quarter and still derived 70% of revenue from automotive sales.
