AI Demand Fuels Memory-Chip Shortage as Samsung SSD Price in Japan Soars More Than 300%

The pressure has spread from server components to Japan’s consumer market, where SSD prices from brands including Samsung Electronics and Kioxia are rising. As of July 20, 2026, Samsung Electronics’ flagship 9100 PRO 8TB SSD was selling for close to 550,000 yen in Japan, more than 300% above its previous price. Other brands, including Kioxia, have also posted significant increases, showing that the memory price surge continues to spread. Retailers are grappling with tight supplies and extreme price volatility.
