Maximum Raises $30 Million to Challenge Legacy Bank Cores

5 reports · First detected 2026-08-04 · Last active 2026-08-06

Core banking systems run deposits, loans, payments and ledgers, making them among the hardest and riskiest pieces of technology for a financial institution to replace. The U.S. market is highly concentrated: Fiserv, Jack Henry and FIS collectively served more than 70% of surveyed banks in 2022. That entrenched position has frustrated banks seeking real-time, cloud-based tools and created an opening for startups promising software designed around AI rather than decades-old architectures.

Maximum emerged from stealth on August 6, 2026, with a $30 million seed round led by venture-capital firm CRV. The startup plans to use the funding to build an AI-native core banking operating system in which AI agents can support routine operations and product management. Maximum is positioning the platform as a replacement for systems supplied by Fiserv, Jack Henry and FIS, though it has not disclosed its valuation, named bank customers or provided a timetable for production deployments.
