Bitcoin Risks Prolonged Sideways Trading, Threatening Strategy’s Financing Model

2 reports · First detected 2026-06-19 · Last active 2026-06-20

Bitcoin spot ETFs and the U.S. strategic reserve narrative have supported institutional adoption, but CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju believes fresh capital and market confidence could fade if prices remain range-bound for years. Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, relies on stock and preferred-share issuance to finance bitcoin purchases, making its share-price premium and demand for its offerings crucial to keeping that flywheel turning.

Ki Young Ju warned on June 19, 2026, that the real threat was not a sharp selloff but a “boring market” lacking a fresh narrative. Bitcoin was trading at about $64,000 at the time. Strategy held 846,842 BTC as of June 15, while STRC, with an 11.5% annual dividend rate and a $100 face value, had at one point slid toward $85. A prolonged consolidation could limit the company’s ability to raise funds for further bitcoin purchases.
