Public opinion and policy assessments of the Middle East conflict rely heavily on real-time imagery, but generative AI can now fabricate scenes of bombings and damaged buildings as well as satellite images, then spread them rapidly through social platforms. Such content can confuse the public and potentially mislead government officials and media organizations, undermining the credibility of battlefield information. Digital watermarking systems such as Google's SynthID have therefore become tools for verification.

As of July 19, 2026, large volumes of AI-generated videos and satellite images related to the war in Iran continued to circulate on social platforms, with some mistakenly reposted as authentic battlefield footage. Verification experts recommend checking building structures, the proportions of people and vehicles, shadow angles and image sources, as well as tracing watermarks such as SynthID. Because the event involved no transaction, there is no verifiable monetary amount.
