Worldcoin's WLD Plunges After Arthur Hayes Sells Entire Stake
Worldcoin is a biometric identity project backed by Sam Altman, and markets often classify its WLD token as an AI-linked asset. Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and chief investment officer of Maelstrom, had viewed WLD as a liquid proxy trade for SpaceX's listing and the AI boom, making his reversal significant for short-term sentiment.
On June 6, 2026, Hayes announced that Maelstrom had sold its entire WLD position, less than 24 hours after he said it would continue holding the token. He did not disclose the size of the stake or the value of the sale. WLD fell about 10% over 24 hours following the announcement and was down nearly 20% at one point. Hayes said the trigger was a drop of more than 50% over several days in SpaceX's premarket price on Hyperliquid. SpaceX is scheduled to list on June 12.
