Trump Hints Trump Accounts Could Add Bitcoin, Offering BTC a Potential Source of Steady Long-Term Demand

3 reports · First detected 2026-07-06 · Last active 2026-07-07

Trump Accounts were established under the One Big Beautiful Bill, which took effect on July 4, 2025, as tax-advantaged children's accounts administered by the U.S. Treasury and Internal Revenue Service. Eligible children born from 2025 through 2028 receive a one-time $1,000 government contribution, while families may contribute up to $5,000 annually. The funds are currently restricted to low-cost U.S. equity index funds.

On July 6, Trump said at the White House that adding bitcoin to Trump Accounts “could happen,” but offered no legislation or implementation timetable. More than 4 million children had registered at the time, while Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz pledged an additional $1,000 for eligible employees' children. The news helped BTC rebound in the short term to about $64,000, but any change still requires regulators to revise the rules.
