Taiwan FSC Issues Guidance on Countering Frontier AI Attacks

As frontier AI models from companies such as Anthropic rapidly advance, hackers can use AI to find and weaponize vulnerabilities far faster, sharply lowering both the barriers to attack and the time required. The financial industry has long been a prime target for cyberattacks because it handles vast flows of money and customers’ personal data, putting the Financial Supervisory Commission’s guidance for Taiwanese financial institutions under close industry and market scrutiny.

The FSC issued strategic recommendations in July 2026 to help the financial industry counter frontier AI attacks. Citing the dramatic increase in the speed at which AI can find vulnerabilities, it urged financial institutions to accelerate cybersecurity preparations. Over the medium to long term, the regulator recommended deploying defensive AI technology to strengthen cyber resilience through an “AI versus AI” approach. Media described the playbook as “fighting magic with magic,” underscoring the regulator’s heightened alertness to the escalating AI cybersecurity arms race.
