Bank of Ireland Appoints Prag Sharma as First Chief AI Officer

Bank of Ireland has created a chief AI officer role as lenders move artificial intelligence from pilot projects into core operations. The position gives the bank a senior executive responsible for coordinating AI investment, adoption and governance, areas that are becoming increasingly important as financial institutions seek productivity gains while managing operational, regulatory and data risks.

The Irish lender appointed Citigroup executive Prag Sharma as its inaugural chief AI officer, underscoring its commitment to expanding investment in the technology. The hire builds on an AI training programme introduced for Bank of Ireland employees in March this year, pairing workforce development with dedicated executive leadership as the institution works to deepen its capabilities across the business.
