Akamai Acquires LayerX for $205 Million to Bolster AI Security and Browser Monitoring

1 reports · First detected 2026-05-18 · Last active 2026-05-18

LayerX is an Israeli browser-security startup whose technology can be deployed directly in companies' existing browsers to monitor user prompts, file uploads and SaaS activity. The acquisition allows Akamai to extend protection from networks and workloads to browsers. It also helps close gaps in data-loss prevention, access controls and compliance as enterprises adopt generative AI and AI agents.

Akamai signed a definitive agreement on May 14, 2026, to acquire all outstanding LayerX shares for about $205 million and announced the completion of the transaction on July 2. The company expects LayerX to generate about $10 million in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2026. The deal is expected to dilute Akamai's non-GAAP earnings per share by about $0.12 in fiscal 2026.
