YMTC Plans $5 Billion IPO to Challenge NAND Leaders
Yangtze Memory Technologies Co., or YMTC, is seeking to narrow the gap with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in the global NAND flash-memory market. NAND chips are essential components in smartphones, data centers and solid-state drives, making production scale a key influence on pricing and competitiveness. YMTC’s expansion also carries strategic weight for Beijing as China pushes to build a more self-reliant semiconductor supply chain.
YMTC told investors it plans to increase NAND production capacity by nearly 25% and aims to become the world’s leading supplier by 2027, according to recent reports. The Chinese chipmaker is also preparing for a Shanghai initial public offering that could raise about $5 billion, with a listing reportedly possible as early as the fourth quarter. Proceeds would support its manufacturing expansion and intensify its challenge to Samsung and SK Hynix.
