Flywire Expands Trustly Open Banking Payments Across US, Canada
Flywire provides payments software and infrastructure for complex, high-value transactions in education, healthcare, travel and business-to-business markets. Trustly’s open banking technology allows customers to pay directly from bank accounts, offering an alternative to cards and conventional wire transfers. The companies began working together on Oct. 19, 2017, initially enabling cross-border bank payments for Flywire customers in Europe.
Flywire said in August 2026 it was extending the Trustly partnership to the US and Canada, allowing users to authorize high-value domestic and cross-border payments directly through their bank accounts and settle in US or Canadian dollars. The companies did not disclose the value or duration of the agreement. Flywire processed more than $37.6 billion in total payment volume in 2025, providing an established transaction base for the expanded service.

Trustly recently announced that it now has more than 120 million users worldwide. In the UK, about one-third of adults have used its Pay by Bank service. The company did not disclose the exact announcement date, transaction value or user breakdown by market, but the milestone indicates that consumer adoption of A2A payments continues to accelerate.
