Venmo Expands Stash Cash-Back Program to Bolster Mobile Payments Ecosystem
PayPal-owned Venmo, originally centered on splitting bills and transferring money between friends, is expanding into a mobile payments platform spanning payments, shopping and money management. The company launched Stash on November 10, 2025, offering cash back to encourage users to maintain account balances and use its debit card, with a focus on Gen Z consumers who prefer debit cards.
Venmo announced an expansion of Stash on April 15, 2026. In addition to using the Venmo Debit Mastercard, customers can now earn rewards when they select Venmo at checkout and shop across designated combinations of brands. The base cash-back rate is 1%, rising to 2% when automatic reloads are enabled. Users who receive at least $500 in direct deposits each month can earn 5%, subject to a monthly rewards cap of $100.
