Musk Sees 1 Billion Humanoid Robots, Warns of AI Power Crunch

Artificial intelligence is moving beyond software into physical machines, increasing demand for computing capacity and reliable electricity. Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has argued that humanoid robots could lift productivity by taking on work across manufacturing and services, potentially expanding the global economy. The scale of that transition, however, would depend on whether power generation and grids can keep pace with energy-intensive data centers and automated systems.

Speaking at a Group of 20 meeting, Musk predicted that as many as 1 billion humanoid robots could be operating worldwide within the next decade. He also warned that electricity supply would become a major constraint on AI development as data centers and robots consume more energy. The forecast highlights a widening challenge for governments and industry: accelerating investment in generation and grid infrastructure alongside rapid growth in AI computing and robotics.
