SoundCloud Launches Zero-Commission Music Sales for Artists
SoundCloud is expanding beyond streaming as it seeks to become a broader career platform for independent musicians. The company already offers Fan-Powered Royalties, Fan Support, on-demand vinyl and storefront tools, but direct music sales bring discovery and payment into the same experience. Artists can monetize engaged listeners without sending them to an outside marketplace, reducing friction and giving SoundCloud a stronger position in the direct-to-fan market.
SoundCloud launched the beta on Aug. 26, 2026, with about 200 US-based Artist Pro creators. Participating musicians can set their own prices, while fans can purchase and download tracks directly from an artist’s profile in formats such as MP3 or WAV. SoundCloud will take no platform commission, leaving artists with the full proceeds after standard payment fees and taxes. The company plans to extend the feature to more creators in fall 2026.
