Adobe CEO to Step Down as AI Wave Tests Company and AI Chip Technology Advances

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-13 · Last active 2026-03-13

Shantanu Narayen has led Adobe since 2007, overseeing the shift of products including Photoshop from one-time purchases to Creative Cloud subscriptions and increasing annual revenue from less than $1 billion to more than $25 billion. Generative AI is now reshaping creative workflows. Adobe must defend its software moat with Firefly while facing pressure from new tools that are eroding the advantages of its traditional products.

Adobe announced on March 12, 2026, that Narayen would step down as CEO once a successor is in place and remain chairman. Revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2026, ended February 27, rose 12% year over year to a record $6.4 billion, while annual recurring revenue from AI-first products grew to more than three times its previous level. Separately, NVIDIA and TSMC are advancing silicon photonics. Volume production of TSMC’s COUPE co-packaged optics solution is expected in 2026, while the chipmaker continues to expand its CoWoS integration capabilities.
