Polimill Taps OpenAI to Build Japan’s Public AI Infrastructure

Japan’s local governments manage large volumes of regulations, policy guidance and administrative know-how, but fragmented information can slow decision-making and service development. Polimill is using OpenAI’s GPT models and Codex technology to build what it describes as next-generation public AI infrastructure, aimed at making government knowledge easier to retrieve and apply while improving the efficiency of municipal operations.

Polimill’s newly disclosed system is designed to help local authorities search, organize and use administrative knowledge more quickly, while extending generative AI into operational and development workflows. The available report did not specify an investment amount, launch date, participating municipality count or performance targets. The initiative nonetheless marks a further expansion of OpenAI technology into Japan’s public sector, beyond its more established use in consumer and corporate applications.
