OpenAI to Establish Permanent London Office, Expand Research Team to More Than 500

OpenAI plans to expand its presence in London, citing the UK’s strength in AI talent and research, and make the city its largest research hub outside the United States. A permanent base could deepen OpenAI’s ties with British academia, technology communities and industry, while reflecting intensifying global competition for top AI researchers.

OpenAI said it will open its first permanent London office in King’s Cross in 2027, with capacity for more than 500 employees, and expand its local research team. The new site will replace or consolidate existing office arrangements and serve as a key base for OpenAI’s long-term UK presence and overseas AI research.
