As academic competition intensifies in China, parents are bringing generative AI into after-school learning. Tools range from translation devices powered by DeepSeek models to ByteDance’s Doubao chatbot for checking homework. They have lowered barriers to personalized tutoring and helped turn AI study rooms into a new category of education technology service.

Recent reports show that some AI study rooms in China can monitor children’s posture, track their learning and send progress updates to parents. Families are also using Doubao to check homework. The reports did not provide specific dates, fees or user numbers. Debate has instead centered on children’s data privacy and personality development, as well as whether AI is intensifying anxiety over school admissions.
