Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro, First Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple’s annual September launch anchors its hardware calendar because the iPhone remains central to revenue and a global supplier ecosystem. The 2026 event carried added strategic weight as Apple entered the still-niche foldable market, which accounts for less than 5% of smartphone shipments, with the iPhone Duo. It also marked the first major product showcase led by John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook as chief executive on Sept. 1.

At its “Surprise and shine” event in Cupertino on Sept. 9, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, updated AirPods and Apple Watch models, and its first foldable handset. The iPhone Duo opens to a 7.6-inch display and starts at $1,999 in the US and NT$74,900 in Taiwan. Preorders begin Oct. 16 ahead of an Oct. 23 release, while the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, priced from $1,199 and $1,299, go on sale Sept. 18.
