Synchrony Launches ChatGPT Plugin for Financing Offers

Synchrony is a U.S. consumer finance provider whose products span retail credit, promotional financing and loyalty rewards. A company survey released on March 2, 2026 found that 56% of U.S. consumers used generative AI during the holiday shopping season, with product discovery and deal hunting accounting for roughly one-third of usage across age groups. The shift is making AI assistants an increasingly important gateway for merchants seeking visibility and sales conversions.

Synchrony said on August 17, 2026 that it entered an enterprise collaboration with OpenAI and launched a plugin in the ChatGPT plugin directory. The tool lets consumers explore Synchrony Marketplace savings, promotional financing, deals and everyday value from participating partners through a conversational interface. The companies also plan to integrate financing, rewards and loyalty into AI-native shopping and checkout experiences, while Synchrony deploys OpenAI models more broadly across its operations. No financial terms were disclosed.
