Trump's Signature to Appear on US Banknotes, Ending 165-Year Tradition

By convention, US banknotes have carried the signatures of Treasury officials since 1861 and have never featured that of a sitting president. The Treasury Department is changing the 165-year practice in the hope that the special-edition notes will commemorate the 250th anniversary of US independence in 2026, again drawing attention to the dollar's design and political symbolism.

The Treasury Department said banknotes bearing President Donald Trump's signature are expected to be issued from the summer of 2026. The first batch will comprise new $100 notes, with printing set to begin as early as June before the bills gradually enter circulation. The new design will replace the Treasurer's signature with Trump's, marking a first in US history.
