Bitcoin’s Addressable Market Could Eclipse Gold’s $30 Trillion-Plus Valuation, Analysis Says
Gold has long been regarded as a haven during geopolitical turmoil and currency depreciation, and its market is worth more than $30 trillion. Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan believes Bitcoin’s cross-border portability and decentralized nature could allow it to capture a larger store-of-value market than gold as the risks of financial sanctions and sovereign-asset freezes increase.
As of July 20, 2026, Hougan’s analysis showed that Bitcoin had outperformed both the S&P 500 and gold during recent geopolitical crises, suggesting investors may be gradually adding it to their haven allocations. Markets are now watching whether Bitcoin can regain $90,000 and whether its long-term potential market could surpass gold’s valuation of more than $30 trillion.
