Taiwan’s NCC Issues AI Guidelines for Broadcast News, Mandating Content Labels and Verification

Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) issued guidelines in July 2026 on the use of AI in broadcast news. The move addresses the risks of misinformation, misleading content and unclear accountability as generative AI rapidly enters reporting, editing and news presentation workflows. The guidelines seek to preserve factual accuracy and public trust as media organizations adopt the technology.

The guidelines require radio and television outlets to establish human fact-checking and internal review mechanisms. AI-generated or substantially AI-altered text, audio, images and video must be clearly labeled throughout their use, from broadcast to citation. Media outlets should avoid highly realistic AI-generated audio and video in coverage involving national security or major public affairs. The guidelines are self-regulatory, and no related monetary amounts or fines were announced.
