Linea Hands ZK Rollup Stack to Linux Foundation Group
Linea is an Ethereum Layer-2 network that uses zero-knowledge rollups to bundle transactions before settling them on the main blockchain, reducing costs and increasing throughput. Moving its core software into a neutral foundation matters because most major ZK rollup stacks remain controlled by individual teams or organizations. Independent open-source governance could give companies and financial institutions greater confidence that critical scaling infrastructure will remain accessible and free from a single vendor’s control.
Linea Consortium said on May 5, 2026, that it had joined Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust as a premier member and contributed the open-source stack powering Linea Mainnet as a new project called Lineth. Since launching in July 2023, Linea has processed more than 300 million transactions and generated 416,000 verified ZK proofs, while recording 99.98% sequencer uptime and peak total value locked of $2.5 billion. The transfer changes governance of the codebase, but does not by itself decentralize network operations.
