AI Deepfake Crime Tool Threatens Crypto and Bank KYC Systems
Financial institutions and crypto platforms rely on know-your-customer checks to verify identities and prevent money laundering and fraudulent account openings. Generative AI, however, can now create realistic faces, identity documents and voices. A dark-web tool called Jinkusu further lowers the barrier to synthetic-identity fraud, raising the risk to existing facial-recognition and liveness-detection systems used by banks and trading platforms.
Recent reporting says Jinkusu combines real-time deepfake video with voice alteration in an attempt to bypass KYC procedures at banks and crypto platforms. The affected institutions, financial losses and the tool's launch date have not been disclosed. Cybersecurity experts recommend layered verification spanning documents, devices, behavior and biometrics, along with real-time monitoring to intercept suspicious applications.
