MoonPay Acquires Israeli Crypto Security Firm Sodot to Expand Institutional Business

2 reports · First detected 2026-04-29 · Last active 2026-04-29

MoonPay began with a focus on converting between fiat currencies and crypto assets but has gradually expanded its enterprise infrastructure in recent years. Israeli startup Sodot specializes in self-custodial key-management technology using multiparty computation, or MPC, and trusted execution environments, or TEEs. The acquisition adds the security and operational capabilities MoonPay needs for institutional custody, allowing it to expand services for banks, asset managers and trading firms.

MoonPay announced on April 29, 2026, that it had acquired Sodot in an all-stock deal valued at about $100 million and formed MoonPay Institutional. The new unit is led by former acting U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Caroline Pham. Sodot's technology had previously secured more than 10 million wallets and supported over $50 billion in transaction volume.
