FIDO Alliance Unveils 2026 Roadmap Focused on Digital Credentials and Agentic AI Identity Security
The FIDO Alliance has long promoted passwordless authentication and passkey standards and is now expanding its identity work to digital credentials and agentic AI. As digital wallets gain traction and AI agents begin executing transactions on users’ behalf, verifying identities, defining the scope of authorization and assigning responsibility have become critical challenges for cybersecurity and cross-platform interoperability.
The FIDO Alliance’s 2026 technology roadmap targets three areas: digital credentials, agentic AI and the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). The alliance will advance security interoperability and certification standards for digital wallets, while designing delegation and real-time authorization models for AI agents to reduce impersonation and identification risks arising when agents mimic human actions.
