UK Hosts First OpenClaw AI Agent Hackathon, Showcasing Cross-Sector Applications
AI agents can independently break down tasks, connect tools and execute workflows, moving beyond chat interfaces into industry applications. In March 2026, Imperial College London hosted the inaugural UK AI Agent Hackathon, centered on the open-source OpenClaw framework. The event highlighted growing interest among British researchers and academics in autonomous-agent technology and cross-disciplinary applications.
The London hackathon drew more than 1,200 developers, with OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger attending in person. Teams used OpenClaw to build a range of AI agents, including tools to support agricultural hedging and bioinformatics research, as well as safeguards designed to reduce operational risks in decentralized finance (DeFi).
