MoneyGram Launches Stablecoin-Backed Visa Card in Colombia
Colombia is one of Latin America’s largest remittance markets, receiving about $13.1 billion in 2025, up 10.6% from 2024. A decade of peso depreciation has also increased demand for dollar-linked savings. MoneyGram began offering Colombian users a USDC-backed balance in September 2025, supported by Stellar, Crossmint and Circle, allowing recipients to hold dollars digitally or withdraw pesos at more than 6,000 MoneyGram locations.
On Sept. 10, 2026, MoneyGram launched its first stablecoin-backed Visa card in Colombia, partnering with Rain and combining Rain’s card infrastructure with Crossmint wallets and the Stellar network. Eligible users can apply inside the MoneyGram app, add the digital card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and spend wherever Visa is accepted. MoneyGram, which serves more than 60 million active customers in over 200 countries and territories, plans to introduce a physical card with ATM access in late 2026 and expand to more markets in the coming months.
