NVIDIA Warns of Prolonged Memory Shortage as CXL 3.0 Pooling Nears Takeoff
NVIDIA recently warned that an artificial intelligence memory shortage could persist for years, creating a critical bottleneck for unlocking computing capacity. CXL 3.0 memory pooling, which enables resources to be shared, is approaching an inflection point as the industry seeks to overcome the “memory wall” caused by limited local memory on individual chips. The architectural shift is viewed as a key solution for handling large-scale workloads and improving GPU utilization.
UBS estimates that the global CXL market will reach $4.5 billion in 2027. Marvell's CXL revenue is projected to double from $1 billion in 2027 to $2 billion in 2028. CXL modules from major memory manufacturers including Samsung and Micron are also expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2026, emerging as the next high-margin battleground after HBM.
