Android 17 and Pixel Drop Upgrade Gemini AI Experience

Android is Google's mobile operating system, while Pixel devices serve as a showcase for new features. Android 17 and the regularly released Pixel Drop bring simultaneous upgrades to multitasking, security and generative AI. The releases show Google expanding Gemini from a chatbot into a system-level mobile service as it uses hardware-software integration to strengthen the competitiveness of the Android ecosystem.

Google formally rolled out Android 17 and the month's Pixel Drop to Pixel devices in June 2026, adding improved multitasking and security protections as well as Gemini video editing, Lyria 3 music generation and real-time voice translation. However, the core Gemini Intelligence feature is not expected to launch until summer 2026 and will support only selected phones, limiting its initial availability.
