Hyperliquid Traders in Tokyo Gain 200-Millisecond Edge as Glassnode Study Highlights DeFi Infrastructure Concentration

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-30 · Last active 2026-03-30

Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange focused on perpetual contracts, but its validators and trading connections still rely on physical cloud infrastructure. Glassnode said concentrating critical nodes in a single region can create geographic information disparities similar to those in high-frequency trading, even when DeFi operates on-chain. No specific monetary amount was involved.

Glassnode's latest research found that Hyperliquid's validator cluster and servers used by exchanges including Binance and BitMEX are concentrated in AWS's Tokyo region, giving traders in Tokyo a latency advantage of about 200 milliseconds over those elsewhere. Reports did not provide the study's publication date. The research also warned that DeFi still lacks the latency-equalization mechanisms common in traditional markets.
